It’s been a while, here’s some of whats been happening…
Awards and Nominations
I was honoured for my work this year with the Fitzroy Robinson prize for drawing, and a nomination for the RIBA silver medal. As far as I know, it’s the first time a film-based project has even been considered for either of these awards, so its really exciting to see a change in how people view film in relation to architecture. It also means that I will continue working on my 3D film, Augmented City, until the submission date for the silver medal, which is later this year.
I didn’t do so well in the 3Dreid awards unfortunately, maybe as they don’t allow the presentation of film? It’s a shame, as I think more people are experimenting with new ways of representing architectural ideas, and it is important for the industry to support these new ways of working.
Bartlett Summer Show / Catalogue
The exhibition has been and gone, but it was a great year! My unit (who all make films) released a catalogue separate from the main show book. Its £5, and contains information and images about the projects as well as most of the films from this year (including domestic robocop). For the amount of thought, energy and hard work that went into these films, its an absolute steal. Drop me an email if you’d like a copy and I’ll sort one out for you! They are also on sale in the Bartlett School’s reception.
Publications and Screenings
An image from Augmented City was published in the Guardian Guide on Saturday, but was unattributed (is this allowed??). Time Out did a DIY 3D feature for their current issue, for which I acted as a consultant, but was again omitted from the article (aside from the main picture, which featured me scaring pigeons in 3D!). I’ve got a few other high profile media appearances coming up in the next week or two, but I’m not sure if I’m allowed to spill until they are online/on air. Will update with further info later!
Last but not least, I’m presenting and screening my latest (unfinished) film at ‘Short and Sweet 3D’ film festival tomorrow evening at the Barbican. Its the UK’s first 3D independent film festival and should be great, but tickets sold out long ago unfortunately.
Thats all for now, but more updates, images, tests, links, thoughts, videos etc. very soon!
