I wasn’t sure whether I was allowed to reveal that I’ve joined the RIBA ‘Building Futures’ think tank as a consultant for the ‘City Rebooted’ project, but it’s been revealed for me! Very excited about this project!
1 year agoThe role of augmented reality in cities of the future has been a hot topic in the Building Futures office for some time, but after meeting with Keiichi Matsuda last week, we’ll never get it out of our minds.
Keiichi is a multidisciplinary designer and film-maker, and we met with him to explore the ideas surrounding our current project ‘City Rebooted’. As we are currently exploring various technologies which could influence the future urban environment, Keiichi seemed like the ideal person to discuss Augmented Reality with, as the above video shows!
Together, we imagined cities where architecture was personalised via Augmented Reality screens in inhabitants eyes, the reduction of a need for physical privacy brought about by digital architecture, and even expressed concern over the potential for these technologies to further fragment urban communities.
And Keiichi even treated us to a new 3D video he is working on exploring Augmented Reality and its relationship with the city of the future (a sneak peek of which has since been posted on the Wallpaper* website) which reaffirmed our feelings that this technology really could change cities forever, and is definitely worthy of a place within City Rebooted.
